After being informed that “I love my girlfriend, my dog and my motorbike”, would not suffice as a biography, I enlisted the help of my dearest friend Joey, to give you a short and suitably biased introduction to who I am.
”I’ve known Charley for most of my life, but for the first part he was just the guy that my older sister was a bit shy around. We grew up in the heart of the Cotswolds, which I truly believe is one of the most quietly beautiful parts of England, and you can see the influence this had on Charley‘s work; he can make the most of any striking backdrop, but also knows how to turn the everyday into something quite special.
He always loves to find out how every part of the puzzle fits together, how every piece works, so after spending enough time looking into the lens of a camera he began to take an interest in what goes on on the other side. And so began his lifelong romance with the camera…
I remember being around Charley when he started getting his first jobs as a professional photographer. We lived between the Cotswolds and East London; we still liked drinking a little bit too much, driving a little too fast, and laughing childishly at anything and everything (still do). I admit to often feeling concerned that he was over-reaching with the jobs he arranged, as the stakes often seemed so high: people’s weddings, international fashion brand shoots, cherished dog portraits. But as one seemingly over-ambitious scheme after another materialised into success after success, I began to realise that I needed to take him a little more seriously.
I’ve learned never to underestimate him: he may be a smiley, seemingly care-free guy, who loves surfing and laughing, but I’ve never seen him do anything half-measure.
His resume speaks for itself: he is a regular contributor to Vogue and Elle as well as a number of leading international publications; he is the go-to photographer for high-end fashion brands such as Ghost and Topshop; he has recently expanded his skillset to video and has spent a lot of the past year shooting material for Beyonce.
But he’s still just my friend I grew up with in a small village in the middle of nowhere , so I hope you enjoy working with him!’’
I am now based between London and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and am available to photograph weddings anywhere in the world, throughout the year. So far this year I have been booked for weddings in London, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Hawaii, France, Mallorca and Miami.
After years in the industry, I am passionate about photography and the industry. I now mentor emerging photographers and try to share everything I have learnt about the industry in my blog and Photographers Resources page, which detail the styles and techniques I use in my photography and post-production.
